CHARLOTTE YOUTH HARMONY FESTIVAL FEB 27, 2012

CHARLOTTE YOUTH HARMONY FESTIVAL, 2/23/12

2/24/12

Feedback from yesterday’s event.

Bob Johns, Jan Muddle and I attended for the entire day, and several members of the Gold Standard Chorus were there, including Jeffery Meekins.

The “approximate count” was 46 boys and about 129 girls participating.  It was “high energy” from the kids and excellent planning and execution from staff  and volunteers.
Plaudits all to Lorrie Mauney, who headed this event It was her 6th camp.  She had gotten the support from the schools and their music educators, the important  grant from the Arts and Science Council of Charlotte, and drummed up about a dozen  sponsors (e.g. Community School of the Arts, Sweet Adelines, UPS Store, Blink Eye Care, Lance (foods), Brixx Pizza, Trader Joe’s, and of course Harmony Foundation,  Carolinas District, and Gold Standard Chorus)

Lorrie also personally recruited Joe Ceruti, whom most know is currently Director of The Alexandria, VA chapter and the Pride of Baltimore Sweet Adelines  chorus.  Joe Was terrific.

There were two teaching quartets:  “Vigilantes”, Dixie District College Champs, and Silver Medals of the Society, and Lorrie’s own quartet, 3rd Place “Atlantic Bay” Mountain Region Champions of  Sweet Adelines.

OBSERVATIONS:  It was a “first class” event.  Couldn’t possibly overrate the positive impacts of Joe Ceruti.  The musical abilities and teaching skills of every member of the two quartets was hugely important in the overall success of the program (as evidenced in each of the Break-out part rehearsal throughout the day. Each could sing the part impeccably as well as teach the music, and good vocal production).
