MISSION, VISION AND VALUES
The new Carolinas District of the Barbershop Harmony Society
The Carolinas District is committed to supporting the Society’s aim of
preserving, encouraging, and perpetuating the traditional American art form
of singing in four-part Barbershop harmony style.
The Carolinas District strives to provide excellent levels of service and
support to our Chapters and members, tailored to the specific needs and
requirements of each.
The Carolinas District seeks to fulfill our Mission, achieve our Vision, and live
our Values by promoting and encouraging vocal harmony and good
fellowship among our members; to the end that Barbershop singing flourishes
and spreads throughout North and South Carolina.
To proactively serve and support our Chapters and members in ways that
enhance their enjoyment of the craft, help them to become better singers and
performers, and introduce the joy of Barbershop harmony singing to more
men and more communities throughout the Carolinas.
OUR FUTURE VISION
The health and well being of every Chapter and its members is our highest
priority. The Carolinas District serves its total membership faithfully,
providing a structure that offers a healthy Barbershopping experience for
everyone. The District reaches out to every Chapter with opportunities to
participate in District activities, events, and programs, remaining at all times
consistent with the goals and objectives of the Barbershop Harmony Society.
The Carolinas District serves all Barbershoppers in North and South Carolina
by creating and supporting activities, events, and programs that help
Chapters and individual members to continuously improve their singing and
performing skills, to become better Chapter leaders and administrators, and
to have more fun singing together. A key objective is to expand the craft of
Barbershopping throughout the Carolinas. The District supports the growth
and development of existing chapters, and actively seeks opportunities to start
new chapters and introduce more men to the craft. The District encourages
existing chapters to help sponsor, support and assist in the creation and
development of new chapters wherever possible. The District supports vocal
music education, and encourages Chapters to form strong partnerships with
local school systems, community college and university choral groups, and
The Carolinas District conducts all of its business with financial discipline,
and remains transparent, accountable, and fair to all of its members. Its
governing structure is representative, and processes encourage all who are
qualified to serve.
The Carolinas District recognizes the need to be flexible, entrepreneurial,
proactive, and aggressive, both as individuals and as an organization. We
believe in teamwork, innovation, professionalism, and strategic decisionmaking.
Our goal is to serve the needs of our Chapters and members to the best of our
abilities, with a professional, friendly, prompt, courteous, and enthusiastic
attitude from all staff at all times, consistently producing the results expected
of us. We endeavor to preserve and enhance the reputation and image of our
craft and the District through all of our actions, guided by the following key
Uniqueness of Chapters: We accept that each Chapter is unique, with its own
goals and aspirations. We support this uniqueness and seek to offer a healthy
Barbershopping experience to every Chapter and member, exceeding their
expectations by anticipating, understanding, and responding appropriately to
Honesty and Integrity: We always aim to do what is right, fair, and ethical,
maintaining the highest standards of conduct in all of our actions.
Uncompromising levels of integrity, honesty, and disclosure are the
responsibility of every person serving in a Carolinas District officer, staff,
committee, or other leadership role.
Accountability: We are responsible for our actions and understand their
impact on others. We exercise strict fiscal discipline and all financial
transactions are transparent, accountable, and fair to all members.
Consistent Standard of Excellence: We strive for excellence at the highest
standards possible at every level. We strive to provide our Chapters and
members with superior service and support, continuously looking for ways to
improve our procedures and processes, using the best available practices
Communication: We seek and share all information necessary and relevant to
complete our tasks to the best of our ability. We share appropriate
information in an honest and open manner. We support frequent
communication in electronic and written form to all Chapters and members,
and understand the importance of sharing information in a timely manner.
Respect: We are considerate of others through the use of appropriate
behavior and selection of appropriate music and performance styles that
acknowledge and celebrate diversity, and strive to include all of our members,
regardless of race, gender, or political and religious affiliations.
Teamwork: We encourage and reward teamwork. We work together in a
coordinated effort to achieve our goals. Carolinas District officers, staff, and
committee members support the efforts of each Chapter and its members, and
recognize that they serve at the pleasure of all Carolinas District members.
