Most chapters plan. The most important part of a plan is its execution.
If these strange times granted us anything, they gave most of us time.
Time to learn music. Time to grow our technological expertise. Time to learn new things. Perhaps the time to plan is something your chapter has overlooked.
You know the cycle? The one where it’s November and it hits you that you have to start Christmas music? Or that one in January when you realize singing valentines are 6 weeks away?
By making a calender of events we can minimize these “uh oh” moments!!
Using valentines day as an example, we can enter valentines day on our chapter calender.
We can then say that in order to have quartets ready we need to set a deadline on our calender of November 15 for having our quartets selected. We can then say that music, learning tracks, and goals, have to be set by November 8th.
If we plan even further we can find our best deals on roses, cards, flyers, mailings, chocolates, or whatever we choose.
But what about COVID?
Afterall with the information we have we simply don’t know if we can deliver in person valentines. What is your contingency plan?
Will you have a quartet sit by a computer or phone and do 50 live messages to people? Pre record a message? By the time you read this it may be time to plan accordingly.
After this pandemic subsides or vaccines are available what is your chapter plan? Back to the old? Same old guest nights? Word of mouth? These things are fine, but perhaps we’re missing something.
People are going to want to get out, Find new hobbies, make new friends, rekindle a flame with their high school years, join a club, or serve the community. We have all of that!!
Maybe they found barbershop or a cappella during the lockdown stuck inside on the vortex of youtube. Is your website, social media, or contact info up to date?
Don’t be afraid to go outside of the box. We’re talking about Karaoke night, bar crawls, breweries, and country clubs. The odds of finding someone at karaoke night who doesn’t sing or like music is rare. You’ve probably just increased your pool size by 500%.
Circling back, we need to use this time wisely. Being that we really can’t sing together at the moment let’s use zoom and other meeting software to plan. Remember…a plan is only as good as it’s execution.
